UPDATE! PLATFORM BEDS (WITH STORAGE!) ROUNDUP

Row homes require us to get creative with how to best use the space we’re blessed with. Back in 2016, I rounded up eight of the best platform beds with storage I could find. The request came from a client and I thought that all of you would benefit from this info as well. Since then, platform beds with storage have gotten a whole lot prettier! The use of materials like restored hardwoods, shaped metals, and studded upholsteries take away the bulk and give us beauty instead. Take a look through our updated favorites available in 2018 below (in no particular order — all lovely!).
#1 Restoration Hardware Lawson Panel Non-Tufted Fabric Bed

RH has so many options to customize this bed to make it your own; it’s really impressive. Give us all the Belgian linen and storage drawers! We love the Belgian linen in dove, fog, carbon, and indigo. Also check out the Belgian linen cross weave in indigo and all of the Perennials fabric options in case you’re worried about wear and tear on your bed (in which case, good for you!)
#2: Room & Board Avery Upholstered Bed with Storage Drawer

We love the Avery Upholstered Bed with Storage Drawer. It’s beautiful for all age ranges and comes in many different sizes, colors, and fabrics — jacquard, plain-weave, Sunbrella canvas weave, and velvet. If you have tall ceilings or a big expanse of wall where your bed will sit, consider the 64″ headboard height. There are a lot of fabric options but we’re digging the Olive Velvet option right now.
#3: Design Within Reach Matera Bed with Storage

We love love love this bed. Another lovely walnut option and possibly the sleekest bed with storage we’ve ever seen. It is also the heaviest bed that we have ever tried to lift (it took two big dudes to lift so we could install an area rug underneath). There is zero bulk; this bed has drawers that easily slide on an underside track. Check out the video to fully appreciate this bad boy.
#4: Mash Studios Lax Series Storage Platform Bed via All Modern

This was a total fan favorite from our first post, so we’ve kept it on our list. Look at it… it’s still so pretty! It’s made of solid English walnut and has eight — yes eight! — storage drawers under both king and queen options to give your closet some breathing room. Note that the headboard is sold separately, which I would skip. You can do better. And buyer beware – this one requires assembly!
#5: Pottery Barn Brooklyn Storage Platform Bed

We love this minimalist Pottery Barn platform bed. It’s a great option for both small spaces, and situations where you prefer to skip the headboard. This bed would look lovely in front of a row of windows. TIP: Don’t be afraid to put a bed in front of a window — sometimes it works perfectly! And try these handwoven baskets from The Citizenry that catch your eye; the Amani, Zama, and Vitani can all work depending on your storage needs.

Sometimes Ikea brings it. And who doesn’t love a bargain?! This bed is super simple and versatile and the updated 2018 version has more storage than ever before. If you have a narrow room, opt for the version where the entire bed lifts in lieu of drawers.
#7: Room & Board Hudson Wood Storage Bed

The Hudson is like the Malm, elevated. We love that this one has so many beautiful finish options and lovely hardware. And it’s made in the USA (West Virginia!). This one checks all of our boxes: beautiful, functional, and high quality.

If you’re in the market for something minimal yet rustic, the Bodhi storage bed from Arhaus is a lovely option. It has a pretty “organically aged” white oak frame and it’s crafted by Indonesian artisans. If I close my eyes I can see myself lounging on this bed at a resort in Bali…
